Blog Journal 5
1) This class is my first exposure to blogging and doing it on a consistent basis. I think it is a useful tool to help express your thoughts or ideas within your field in a academic way. I think one of the only cons is that it is kind of a old-style way of spreading information. I think the more "modern" platforms such as LinkedIn might replace the way we "blog" and how we share our opinions in a professional way. Either way I believe for it to be important to document your academic and professional journey to help maintain your professional portfolio.
2) I believe AI in education can most certainly be a double edge sword. On one hand, I think AI can be useful in how classrooms run and how education is taught to the next generation; something we have not change in almost 2 centuries. This obviously comes with its downsides as we are struggling to maintain academic integrity, especially at the collegiate level. Although I believe most of the troubles we are currently having with AI are just "growing pains" as a society as we have now unlocked a powerful tool that we simply don't know how to use yet. In general I believe AI is here to stay and its our job as Educators to figure out how to best implement it in our classrooms as avoiding it entirely is simply not possible anymore.
3) Generative AI seems to be the biggest issue that the public school is facing at the moment so it was really nice to see for myself its effects and draft my own opinion. The way I experimented with it is I asked it to draft a research report about educational leadership and its overall effects in Academia. It took a couple of minutes but then drafted me a 15 page essay on the exact report. I also have ChatZERO installed which when I opened the report on google docs, it instantly flagged it for AI generation. I guess my overall opinion is that it definitely has a flaw with stealing information and ideas from other people's work. I think this is something that can be remedied over time with different software updates to prevent the AI doing this for academic specific classes.
4) I have many ideas on how generative AI can be used in the classroom. I think the biggest favor I can provide my students is spending a considerable amount of time on how to use the AI properly and how to use it in a constructive way that wouldn't diminished already established work. For example if my class requires some type of research project, I would show them how to use AI as a researcher finder, helping the student find resources and peer reviewed articles that then they can use for the class. I think there is a lot of misconceptions of AI so as a teacher I have a goal to show them that it can be used to their advantage.
